This luxurious seafront boardwalk is shaded by magnificent palm trees and magnolias and commands sweeping views over the Sicilian coasts and Mt Etna. As night begins to fall, the whole town heads out for the traditional passeggiata along the Lungomare, described by writer Gabriele D'Annunzio as the "most beautiful kilometre in Italy". If possible, take your stroll as the sun is setting, just before going for dinner in one of the beach restaurants.
