The Michelin Guide's review
Three bridges, including a 1911 rail bridge, cross this dramatic canyon, which gouges a 403ft-deep trough through lava rock. The 1926 steel automobile bridge was once the highest single-arch span in the country. The Crooked River Gorge Bridge was built 300ft above the river for a cost of $18.3 million. The Peter Skene Ogden Scenic Wayside, on the south side of the US-97 bridge, has a viewing and interpretive area.
