The Michelin Guide's review
In a wooded site, the Ouareau River cascades over rocks, then plunges 18m into a small pool and branches off into a narrow, rocky gorge. According to an Amerindian legend, the falls sprang out when Nipissingue, a wicked sorcerer, pushed the beautiful maiden, Hiawitha, into a chasm. He was turned to stone by a clap of thunder, while she was transformed into a waterfall. Popular belief holds that the profile, carved into the rock at the edge of the falls, is that of the sorcerer.
