Iqalugaarjuup Nunanga Territorial Park
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
While locals come to picnic on the windy esker, fish or collect water from the river and to stroll at Siksik Lake farther up the road, the main attraction for tourists is a major archaeological site, Qumaviniqtak, ("places of old sod houses"). An interpretive trail, set in the beautiful valley, leads past some twenty 15C and 16C tent rings, circles of stones used to hold the skins down in the wind. Eight centuries ago, the five houses dug near the river offered underground shelter to the Thule people.
