The Michelin Guide's review
Is this gate a work of art or a fortress? The Porte des Oudaïas is such a fine example of the Almohads' virtuosity that you may well find yourself wondering which. Massive but well proportioned, entirely hewn out of lovely red ochre stone, it is a true fortress comprising a series of three rooms large enough to accommodate a small garrison. Between the sturdy columns marking the entrance are two concentric horseshoe arches; the largest is adorned with pointed foils surrounded by deeply carved interlacing.
