The Michelin Guide's review
Presiding over the town and harbour of Pylos, the mighty citadel was built by the Ottomans in 1573 and restored by the French shortly after the Battle of Navarino. Its powerful walls, reinforced to the south by impressive towers, trace a 1 566m perimeter and offer a superb panoramic view over the harbour. To the left of the entrance, a museum displays finds from sites in the region, from prehistory to the Roman period.
