The Michelin Guide's review
Pula's emblematic monument is perched on a hill overlooking the port, just outside the ramparts of the Roman city. Built in the early 1C, then extended under the Flavians (69-96), this is one of the best-preserved amphitheatres of the Roman world. Its exterior façade comprises two levels of arches plus a third level with square windows. A few rows of seating remain and the arena, which could once seat 23 000 spectators, is still used for concerts and a film festival.
