Running from Puerto Montt to Villa O'Higgins, its course follows over 1 200km through the Far South (Chile Austral). Completed in 1996, the new but already renowned Southern Highway (Carretera Austral) is an extension of the Pan-American, another famous road followed by travellers from around the world.
