The Michelin Guide's review
Tamar is a non-profit organisation whose objective is to protect Brazil's turtles. It works on 30km of beach, where four of the five Brazilian species of turtle spawn. The turtles paddle in pools, separated according to species and age. Other local marine species, such as the giant grouper and the nurse shark are kept in giant aquariums. Once hatched, the baby turtles are released onto the beach (mid-Dec to mid-Feb daily at 5pm).
