The Michelin Guide's review
The impressive New Palace (Neues Palais) was commissioned by Frederick the Great, who wanted to show the world that Prussia had emerged intact from the Seven Years War. The excess of the project - 213m wide, 400 rooms, extravagant decoration - are a far cry from the simplicity of Sanssouci Palace. Highlights include the Grotto Hall, with shell-incrusted walls, and the luxurious Marble Room.
