This grey-granite cathedral with gables decorated with red brick was built between the 14C and 16C. It was damaged many times and restored after the devastating fire of 2006. The date the autonomous Grand Duchy was created, 29 March 1809, is also an important date for the cathedral, as it was on this day that Russian Tsar Alexander I solemnly swore to respect Finnish law and religion.
