  The Michelin Guide's review
More unspoiled than its neighbours, Lakes Maggiore and Como, this lake in Lombardy enjoys a mild climate and wild mountainous countryside. Only a small portion of Lake Lugano, sometimes called Lake Ceresio, is situated in Italy; the rest belongs to Switzerland. The village of Campione d'Italia is home to a chapel dating from 1326; as you come out of the village, stop to admire the church of Santa Maria dei Ghirli, where part of the nave is decorated with a magnificent group of frescoes dating from the 14C (artist unknown).
