The Michelin Guide's review
The Serra de São Mamede forms a triangle of hard rock. Its peak, at 1 025m, is capped with snow in winter. Its altitude and the impermeable nature of its soils maintain a level of humidity that favours the growth of thick and varied vegetation. The wildlife is also renowned for being abundant and includes griffon vultures, Bonelli's eagles, stags and wild boars. In addition to all this, it boasts numerous megaliths and rock paintings.
