This bridge, which gave the town its name, has 16 semi-circular arches alternating with openwork piles with cutwaters. Standing 277m long and 4m wide, it was built by the Romans then rebuilt and given crenelations and defensive towers in the 14C by King Peter I, who also built the ramparts and fortified gates.
