The Michelin Guide's review
Begun in the early 1880s, when Carol I made it his summer residence, the castle was extended and renovated in 1914. The architecture depicts German neo-Renaissance influences. Wood, stone and precious materials abound in the castle's 160 rooms. Lavish decoration, including mosaics and carpets, wall paintings and tapestries, stained glass and wainscoting, embellishes the variously styled rooms (hall, Moorish room, armoury, music room).
