Dr Stojan Comakov's House, Zlatju Bojadziev Collection
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Erected between 1858 and 1860, Dr Stojan Comakov's residence is typical of the latter period of the National Revival style. It houses a museum dedicated to an interesting 20C Bulgarian artist, Zlatju Bojadziev (1903-76). The 70 or so paintings on show reveal the work of this artist, whose style is very expressive, sometimes even earthy. Note his scenes of rural life, self-portraits, an amazing double portrait (man and woman) in the Dutch manner, and the execution staged in front of Notre-Dame in Paris.
