The Michelin Guide's review
St-Nicholas's Church, built in 1834, probably on the foundations of a late 13C edifice, is half buried (here as elsewhere, this was meant to show that Christianity was inferior to Islam). The interior houses an elaborately carved iconostasis and a fine pulpit, consisting of a basin supported by a splendid eagle. The side walls are decorated with a fine collection of icons. The oldest (18C) are the work of anonymous artists, whereas those dating from the 19C were painted by artists from the Samokov school.
