Castle Hill
Michelin Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This park contains the remains of Fort Royal, built by the French at the end of the 17C, then rebuilt and renamed Castle Hill by the British. Thanks to its strategic position overlooking Placentia, the site commands a splendid panorama. A small channel, The Gut, links Placentia to two deep creeks that stretch inland. A visitor centre charts the French and English presence in the area. A pleasant forest path leads to Le Gaillardin, a redoubt built by the French in 1692.
