The Michelin Guide's review
This Gothic baptistry (14 C) was built to plans by Andrea Pisano. It is octagonal and dressed in bands of alternative white and grey marble and is crowned with elegant blind arcades. The tympanum on the main doorway (notice the small pulpit) was sculpted by the sons of Andrea Pisano, Nino and Tommaso. Inside, a subtle pink light illuminates the elegant baptismal basin covered in multi-coloured marble created in 1226 by Lanfranco da Como.
