Camposanto, Pisa

The Michelin Guide's review
Designed like a cathedral whose central nave is the open sky, the cemetery resembles a large cloister. The Romanesque arcades have given way to Gothic windows of wonderful lightness. At its centre, the "camposanto" was planted with soil from Golgotha. The galleries are paved with 600 tombstones. In the frescoed room, visitors can meditate on the vanity of earthly things in front of the famous Triumph of Death attributed to Buffalmaco.
