Temple of Pure Emptiness
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 657, the Temple of Pure Emptiness is the oldest Taoist temple in the region. Emptiness is not a word that is appropriate to the temple nowadays, however, as it houses the town's museum, in which sculptures and steles help provide an insight into the history of Pingyao. A collection of unique theatre figurines is by a local artist. The Dragon and Tiger Room is a perfect example of Yuan architecture in the 13C, the period in which the temple was modified and embellished.
