The Michelin Guide's review
The vines are planted in lava, a soil rich in nutrients, sheltered by low basalt walls that protect them from the violent winds and sea salt, while retaining the heat in the stone. These small, highly distinctive plots of land, known as currais and set against each other, create an exceptional mosaic landscape. This Paisagem da Cultura da Vinha was classified by Unesco in 2004.
