The largest site on the Plain of Jars, covering an area of 25ha, is home to 334 jars, the largest of which are 2.50m in height. One of the jars has preserved its stone lid. In a cave to one side, Madeleine Colani found charred human remains in 1931. It was this discovery which led to the suggestion that the jars were used as funerary urns. At the site, a dozen or so craters bear witness to the heavy bombardment suffered by the region during the 1970s.
