Wat Ko Kaew Sutharam
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The Wat Ko Kaew Sutharam consists of a delightful group of wooden buildings raised on stilts. It is also home to a remarkable series of 18C wall paintings of a rare quality, the theme of which are the visits made by European missions to the kingdom of Ayutthaya. Admire, in particular, the image of a Jesuit priest dressed in the tunic worn by Buddhist monks, and that of Persian merchants on horseback, noting the delicate and expressive nature of each face. On the west wall, scenes highlight with great originality the life of Buddha, including his victory over Mara, the demon of evil.
