The Michelin Guide's review
Extending for a kilometre in length, Hat Sai Kaew owes its name (Diamond Beach) to its fine sand, which is rich in silica. Two statues depicting heroes from the Phra Aphaimani epic poem pay tribute to Thailand's greatest poet, Sunthorn Phu (1787-1855). Although the island is situated in the heart of a nature reserve, chalets, bars and restaurants have multiplied here, detracting somewhat from the area's natural charm. Take time to visit the neighbouring beaches along the east coast, such as Ao Hin Khok, Ao Phai and Ao Phutsa.
