The Michelin Guide's review
The Petrovaradin Fortress, located in the province of Vojvodina, stands proudly above the Danube. In the 13C, Cistercian monks settled there. In 1526, the Turks invaded it and besieged it for 150 years. In 1687, it passed into the hands of the Austrians, who transformed it into a modern fortress. It was then that it took on its full importance... and its nickname "Gibraltar of the Danube". Today there is a cultural centre there with many galleries and workshops.
