The Michelin Guide's review
The Palácio de Cristal, a splendid glass palace that is a very early example of Belle Epoque design, was imported from France in 1879 by the emperor's son-in-law. The palace was used as a venue for balls and flower shows and was also the scene of the formal emancipation of the slaves of Petrópolis by Princess Isabel in 1888.
