The Michelin Guide's review
This elliptical amphitheatre was built in the 1C and was one of the largest of its kind in Gaul, capable of seating up to 20,000 people. Huge blocks of stone reveal staircases, vomitoria (wide corridors) and vaults, but all the lower part remains buried in the ground. Turned into a bastion, then ramparts around the town, before becoming a quarry, the amphitheatre is today a pleasant public garden.
