The Michelin Guide's review
The highlight of a visit to the acropolis of Pergamon, the theatre (amphitheatre) is incredibly steep and without doubt one of the most impressive in the whole of Turkey. Its cavea is relatively narrow yet very high, comprising 78 seemingly vertically arranged rows of seats with a height of 50m. Clinging to the steep wall of the mountain, the theatre appears ready to slip into the great void below! From the top of the terraced seats, one is irresistibly drawn downwards beyond the ruins of the stage, which appears as a narrow stone rectangle on the edge of a precipice.
