The Michelin Guide's review
The Ossau Valley was once known as Ursialensis vallis, or "Bear Valley". An invigoratingly fresh and pure landscape, peaks reflected in the lakes, waterfalls and mountain streams. The valley is dotted with a multitude of medieval villages, including Bielle, with its 15C and 16C houses, and Béost, famous for its door lintels with inscriptions. The Bénou Plateau, the splendid Ayous Lakes with their superb views, the Col du Pourtalet, and the Pic de la Sagette are all magnificent sites.
