The Michelin Guide's review
The massive square outline of the crenelated Frankish castle (Frangokástelo) stands out against the coastline. Built in the middle of nowhere by the Venetians in the 14C, it was intended to defend them from attacks by pirates. Spurned by the local inhabitants, it however took much longer to build than planned. It was only properly armed by the Ottomans and witnessed the capitulation of Daskalogiannis in 1770.
