The Michelin Guide's review
Begun in 1196, the baptistery was created in pink Veronese marble on an octagonal plan, probably by the Parma architect Antelami whose "hand" is recognisable in the sculptures and whose signature figures on the lintel on the north doorway. The interior possesses a remarkable collection of frescoes depicting, among others, the life of Christ.
