The railway line led to the gare de la Bastille located where the Opéra now is. Now refurbished, the bridge has revealed its unexpectedly beautiful stonework and pink bricks. The sixty arches are occupied by gold and silversmiths, cabinet-makers, upholsterers, art restorers and such like. You can walk over the bridge from the Bastille to the porte Saint-Mandé.
