Two footbridges separated by the Square des Recollets span the Saint Martin canal, in an attractive area familiar to cinema enthusiasts. If you look carefully you can make out the façade of the Hôtel du Nord along Quai de Jemmapes. Although shot in a studio, Michel Carné's romantic classic movie, filmed in 1938, was named after the hotel.
