Since 1927 the Orangerie has housed the water-lily series painted by Claude Monet which is known as the Nymphéas. Since 1984 it has also been home to the collection assembled by the art dealer Paul Guillaume (1891-1934), which was enhanced after his death by acquisitions made by his widow Domenica and her second husband Jean Walter, and includes paintings by Cézanne, Sisley, Monet, Renoir, Gauguin, Marie Laurencin, Picasso, Modigliani, Derain, Utrillo, Matisse and Soutine.
