Revolving, 80-passenger gondolas with picture windows ascend the vertiginous face of the San Jacinto range on cables suspended from five towers anchored in the rocky slope. The journey from the desert to the Alpine forest covered in snow (at an altitude of 2 800m/9 184ft) takes 10min, allowing plenty of time for visitors to admire the spectacular views of the Coachella Valley.
