The Michelin Guide's review
The statue of Giuseppe Verdi watches over one of the greatest temples dedicated to lyric music. It was built by Giovanni Batista Basile and his son in around 1875. Its imposing triangular frontispiece supported by six columns reuses the motif of ancient temples. But the new Liberty style is not an afterthought, as it is found in the two small wrought iron kiosks in front of the theatre.
