The Michelin Guide's review
The Porta Nuova was built in 1565 in homage to Charles V, but rebuilt a century later. This gate owes its charm to its fine Renaissance loggia with a sloping roof surmounted by the imperial eagle. It marks the start of Via Vittorio Emanuele, a rectilinear avenue closed off at the other end by the Porta Felice.
