The Michelin Guide's review
The chapel of the Royal Palace, or Palazzo dei Normanni, is a magnificent achievement, built by Roger II between 1130 and 1143. The building is a perfect blend of Saracen, Byzantine and Romanesque art and is the most dazzling symbol of the extent of Norman political power. Note the extraordinary wooden ceiling decorated with muqarnas, a masterpiece by North African artists, and the exquisite Byzantine mosaics that decorate the interior.
