Created in 1972, the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area extends along the north bank of Lake Powell and covers an area of over 1.25 million acres. It is mainly devoted to nautical activities and has few hiking trails. The south bank marks the border with the largest Navajo reserve in the United States.
