The renovated Tizi n'Tichka road, which has no fewer than 803 hairpin bends, connects Marrakesh with the southern valleys on the edge of the desert. Before heading down to Ouarzazate, stop off at the windswept Tizi n'Tichka Pass, the highest in Morocco (2 260m), which affords a view all the way to Mt Toubkal. You might also want to leave the main road in order to visit the absolutely splendid ksar in the village of Ait-Benhaddou.
