The Michelin Guide's review
This vast park (also known as the "colonel's garden") was laid out on the banks of the Drave, at the request of an officer in command of the Austrian garrison of the citadel. Its mixture of English and French landscaping styles are now the lungs of Osijek. In 1925, a linden tree was planted here in commemoration of the millennium of the foundation of the Croatian kingdom by Tomislav. If you walk along its paths, taking your bearings on the two elegant steeples of St Michael's church, you will progressively reach the citadel in the heart of the old town.
