Majkpuszta Hermitage
The Green Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
This monastery founded in the 18C is dedicated to the Camaldulensian Order, who take vows of silence. The hermitage was designed by the architect Franz Arton Pilgram. Some of its frescoes are by Maulbertsch. Each of its monks occupied a small house containing an oratory, a workshop for drying and classifying herbs, a bedroom and a nook for eating and storing food. The complex, initially bought by the Esterházy family who turned it into a hunting lodge, was restored in 1980.
