Nestled between the pass, Col du Calvaire, and the Belmont Rock Observation Post, this lake is located at an altitude of 1 054m at the foot of the Route des Crêtes. With a surface area of 28.7ha and 72m deep, it is embedded in a glacial cirque and dominated by a strange fortress-shaped rock, Château Hans. Tall and partly wooded granite faces surround it.
