Active from 1545 to 1901, the Universidad Sancti Spiritus now houses the province of Guipúzcoa's administrative departments and the International Institute for the Sociology of Law. As the only university in the Basque Country when it was first founded, it enjoyed considerable cultural prestige at the time. The Plateresque-style main doorway and patio are remarkable.
