The Michelin Guide's review
In the 16 and 17C, this mine produced silver on an international scale (38t. of pure silver ore per year) and contributed, by its scope and profitability, to national development. Most of the ore was transported to the coast where it was transformed into small oval-shaped coins that were used to trade with Korea and China and later, Europe. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007.
