The Michelin Guide's review
With its bars, restaurants and artists' studios, Rua do Amparo is where Olinda's cultural scene and nightlife are concentrated; its gorgeous row of colourful houses is also worth a look. With its Moorish style, one of them (no 28; 18C) stands out from the rest. The house at no 91 is famous for an entirely different reason: its former owner, Sr. Cardoso, invented pau de índio, a drink made with cachaça and some 30 herbs that is sold here during the carnival.
