The Michelin Guide's review
This volcanic archipelago, composed of Nishino-shima, Nakano-shima, Chiburi-jima and Dogo (the largest) Islands, houses a unique ecosystem protected by a UNESCO Geopark. Green pasturelands, steep, sheer cliffs, primeval, luxuriant forest, crystal-clear water, very few inhabitants and many religious shrines all combine to endow this maritime paradise, formerly a place of exile for ruined dignitaries, with a singular and authentic atmosphere.
