The Michelin Guide's review
A fine fortress (16C) where the presence of the valiant samurai can still be felt.... Their ghosts haunt the grand feudal halls where they abandoned sabres and armours. Rebuilt with much concrete after the bombings of 1945, Okayama Castle nonetheless stands proud and impressive on the edge of Koraku Garden. It has a six-storey keep, whose black exterior is representative of power and discretion. The dark tones are brightened up by golden statuettes of mythical fish and expanses of white roughcast, whose colour symbolises splendour and radiance.
