The Michelin Guide's review
The narrow, flower-decked streets of Obernai, a jewel of Alsace, lead to the ramparts. It was during the 12C that the town, then belonging to the Holy Roman Empire, decided to protect itself by building double fortified city walls. Remodelled several times, they have since become a pleasant esplanade whose best preserved section is the Marshal Foch rampart.
